Research profile
Background
Marta Kirejczyk is assistant professor in Science Technology and Society at the STeHPS unit. She was trained as physicist (MSc from the University of Warsaw) and as social anthropologist (MSc from the University of Utrecht). She received her PhD in Political Sciences from the University of Leiden. As anthropologist she conducted field studies in rural communities of Mexico, Bolivia and Peru. Since 1982 she is involved in the Social Studies of Science, Technology and Society, first at the Free University of Amsterdam and since 1988 at the University of Twente.
Research
She is interested in the role of public and political debates in the processes of shaping the space for the development and social entrenchment of new bio-medical sciences and technologies. In earlier research she addressed the issues of the mutual shaping of gender and reproductive technologies. Her current research focuses on the comparative analysis of regulatory policies in the field of embryo and stem cell research, with special reference to the role of cultural diversity.
