Kops, S.G.T. (Bas)
Research profile
Bas Kops (1971) is a PhD student at the section Philosophy and Ethics of the department Industrial Engineering and Innovation Sciences since november 2009. He studied applied mathematics (Enschede 1995), worked at various companies as an IT consultant, and studied philosophy at Utrecht University, where he received his Bachelor’s degree (Utrecht 2006) and still pursues his Master’s degree. His philosophical interests include the ethics of persuasive technologies, political and social philosophy.
Bas is now performing research for the NWO project titled ’Persuasive Technology, Allocation of Control, and Social Values’. This research program investigates the psychological mechanisms and the moral dilemmas of technologies that aim to persuade human agents to behave in socially-valued ways. Within this project Bas’s focus is on the moral aspects of persuasive technologies.
