Nihlen Fahlquist, J.A. (Jessica)

Research profile

Jessica received her PhD from the Division of Philosophy at the Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm in 2008. The PhD project had two aims. The first aim was to analyse traffic safety from an ethical perspective and the second aim was to analyse the concept of moral responsibility. Previous to that, she studied for a Bachelor’s degree in philosophy and political science at Linköping University and received a Master’s degree in political science from the Uppsala University Programme of International Studies in 2001. In 1999-2000 she studied management and Scandinavian studies at University College London in the UK.

Jessica conducts research into different notions of responsibility and how these could be applied to R&D networks. Her postdoc project, “Conceptual and moral analysis of responsibility” is one part of the project called “Moral responsibility in R&D networks”, which is funded by NWO. This project studies the so called “problem of many hands” in R&D networks and the problem is conceived as a tension between the requirements of completeness and fairness in distributions of responsibility. Jessica’s project aims at developing a notion of moral responsibility that is able to achieve a complete and fair distribution of responsibilities in R&D networks.
