Doorn, N. (Neelke)
Research profile
Neelke Doorn is a PhD research fellow at the Department of Philosophy of Delft University of Technology, working on the project Moral Responsibility in R&D networks. She has a master degree in Civil Engineering (Delft 1997, MSc) and Philosophy (Leiden 2005, MA). The MA thesis was published as a monograph in the book series Psychiatrie and Filosofie (Psychiatry and Philosophy) edited by professor Gerrit Glas.
Neelke has ten years working experience as a research engineer in the field of coastal engineering. Between 2006 and 2010, she was also affiliated to the Radboud University in Nijmegen, where she held a part-time research position at the Centre of Ethics.
At the 3TU Centre for Ethics and Technology, Neelke is involved in the project Moral Responsibility in R&D networks. The overall objective of this project is to gain insight in and to contribute to the solution of the problem of many hands in engineering (see the project webpage for a more elaborate description). The PhD research more specifically focuses on the question to what extent a procedural approach (such as the Rawlsian approach of WRE) can be part of such a solution. As part of the PhD research Neelke is involved in an ethical parallel research at an Ambient Intelligence (AmI) project, aimed at the development of an AmI-based health care application for elderly people.
Neelke was co-organizer of the international conference on moral responsibility that was held at TU Delft (August 24-27, 2009).
