Oosterlaken, E.T. (Ilse)

Research profile

Since September 2009 Ilse is a PhD candidate within 3TU.Ethics, working on the implications of the capability approach of Nussbaum and Sen for the domain of technology, engineering and design, with a special focus on the context of development and global justice. Previously, she has been coordinator of 3TU.Ethics for three years.

Educational background

Ilse Oosterlaken studied ‘Technology & Society’ at the Faculty of Technology Management, Eindhoven University of Technology (BSc/MSc). Her areas of specialization within this program were (1) architecture / construction management and (2) technology & development studies. During her studies, she gained international experience in Tanzania, South Africa and Thailand. She graduated in 2001. From September 2003 until August 2007 she did a part-time bachelor program in philosophy at the University of Utrecht (including an additional minor in journalism).

Previous work experience

Since 2001, Ilse has worked for Eindhoven University of Technology as lecturer and researcher construction management & engineering, and for HBO University Netherlands as a lecturer in real estate management. She has also worked as coordinator and communication advisor for EIRENE, a peace and development organisation.
